Hello senioritapolyester and thank you for doing this interview with Colovision Magazine.
1 – To Start, tellus a bit about yourself where you were born and where you live…
Well, I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina… but currently i’m living and working in San JosÈ, Costa Rica.
2 – How did you get started in the arts?
I studied Graphic Design in “Universidad de Buenos Aires”. I didn’t finished because i got bored, even though I had just one asignature left :P
3-  Where do yo draw your inspiration from?
Too much movies, music, sinister people and photos, japanese people, old magazines, other illustrators works, spending time alone, Reader.
4-  Can you describe for us what a regular day is like for you?
I wake up late, like 11 pm (is very hard to me to wake up in the mornings!), then i drink some tea and check my emails and my reader. Then i try to make the things on my “To Do” list.
5-  What is your most common approach for completing a project?
I’m very messy. First i have truoble in getting my ideas into reality. Then i make some crappy sketches on my notebook and when is ready i work the drawing in vectors.
Because i’m very impatient, the only thingh i want is to finish really quickly, but i never get it, because i’m also very perfectionist.

I don’t have any favourite piece (in fact, i’m not 100% happy with all of them hahaha).
7-  Is it easy to make a living in the work that you do?
Is not easy. Work as a “freelancer” require too much dedication, effort and organization, but this is what i like so i’m very happy with that.
8-  Who is your biggest influence?
Eduardo Recife, Mark Ryden, Elsa Mora, Richard Colman, Diane Arbus, Takato Yamamoto and many more people.
9-  How important is technology for the work that you do? What tools could you not live with out?
Is very important, i coudn’t live without Photoshop and some vector program. Also I couldn’t live without internet acces. Internet saves.
10- How important is color in your work and why?
Color is one of the most important things in any illustration. I really like to work with few colors, i like to think that color comunicate all the feelings i put on my illustrations.
11- Whats your favorite color?
Black and grey.
12- Where can people get in contact with you?
Trought my website www.senioritapolyester.com.ar, also Facebook and Flickr :)

Lately, I am becoming more and more involved with electronic music, due to the fact that rock bands aren’t as good as they used to. Now bands all sound the same to me. And every once in a while, some band pops up with one good song but with a terrible album.

In any case… I found this track called “The Splendour” by Pantha Du Prince and I gotta say I really enjoyed it. The Album which will be released on February 8th sounds very promising. “Black Noise includes collaborations with Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear of Animal Collective and Tyler Pope of !!! and LCD Soundsystem. Prepared instruments played on location in Swiss by Joachim Schütz, Stephan Abry and Hendrik Weber. ”

Definitely worth a follow, download the mp3 here.

Juan Molinet - rey misterio

Hello Juan and thank you for doing this interview with Colovision Magazine.

1 – To Start, tellus a bit about yourself where you were born and where you live…
Well, I was born in San Miguel, 30 kilometers away from Buenos Aires, but always studied and worked in the big city, so I recently moved to a nice and cozy apartment in Palermo, a nice bohemian neighborhood in the capital city.

2 – How did you get started in the arts?
I´ve always loved drawing, since I was a kid. At a very young age I used to sit by mi cousin, who is a couple of years older, and try to imitate his drawings, with little success I may add.
I rediscovered the passion for drawing a couple of years ago, when I quit my former job in a web design studio, I was unemployed and had nothing else to do, so I started to draw again. And start to develop it for real.

3- Where do yo draw your inspiration from?
From everywhere, Fleischer cartoons, eastern religions, pulp magazines, vinyl discs, old toys, pop culture, classic artists, I don´t know, anything I can put my eyes on, basically.

4- Can you describe for us what a regular day is like for you?
I try to get up really early, like 7:30 am, fail to do so, get up at 9, get ready for work and leave.
I spend most of my day in the studio I work for, Peppermelon (www.peppermelon.tv) and then get back home where I do my personal stuff, nowadays, just paint and draw.

5- What is your most common approach for completing a project?
Normally I start by making a lot of hand drawn sketches, when i´m happy with it, it´s time to scan it and work with vectors first and then I retouch it with a photo retouching software, but, lately, i´m starting to do a little old fashion, oil painting, but it´s not good enough to show it.

6- Out of all your work what is your favorite piece and why?
I like many pieces of my work, but I think the PSA of Spongebob squarepants we did for Mtv in Peppermelon, is one of my favorites, because it shows my style in motion, and really like it!
Obviously, I couldn´t do it, if it wasn´t for all the talented people from Peppermelon!

7- Is it easy to make a living in the work that you do?
No, it´s not that easy because there is a lot of good illustrators and designers doing great stuff, but is a nice competition, I like watching awesome stuff from other people, makes me want to be better.

g3963105052_3a722e2461_b

8- Who is your biggest influence?
I don´t have like a main influence, but i´d say Fleischer and 30s cartoons are something that marked me.

h4070878788_1569eb114e_b

9- How important is technology for the work that you do? What tools could you not live with out?
Nowadays, without a vectorizing software, but I´m exploring new paths.

10- How important is color in your work and why?
Very important, because I don´t normally use outline, so the color is the way I separate shapes, and also because I love color, I love powerful, eye catching colors.

11- Whats your favorite color?
Think it´s green. But I like them all.

12- Where can people get in contact with you?
By mail, at paijuano@yahoo.com.ar, or drop me a message in flickr, where you can see my personal work, at www.flickr.com/reymisterio
Also you can check the work of my homies at Peppermelon where there are a lot of talented people making sweet stuff, and me .

Thanks a lot for the time and investment in Colorvision!
Thanks to you, man.

This piece was made on Illustrator and photoshop. While working on photoshop the file accidentally got deleted, after a few hours I managed to recreate most of the work.
