1 – To Start, tell us a bit about yourself where you were born and where you live…

DGPH is a design studio based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Its about working in cool projects and trying to have fun at work. Its a visual arts studio that works mostly on character design, products development, installations and art direction for brands.
DGPH is formed by Diego Vaisberg and Martin Lowenstein (both graphic designers) and Andres (Diego s brother and industrial designer)

2 – How did you get started in the arts?

DGPH started 5 years ago. It was supposed to be a space for experimentation and graphic development for the people involved. With the time, the idea mutated to have fun at work as the main goal. We have no education in arts other than what we read on our own or what we learn at the University. We re very focused in learn our way, so we look for a lot of information on books and internet, bout technics or material it may be suitable for us to work.

3-  Where do you draw your inspiration from?

TV, internet, nature, old books and magazines, old folk stories and legends form all over the world. We ve a huge influence form Asia, in what relates to drawing and style, mixed with the 50s cartoon style from occident. Those are our biggest resources.

4-  Can you describe for us what a regular day is like for you?

We get to the studio around 10.30 in the morning. Sometimes I go with my bicycle, but usually we use the bus to get there. We took like an 1 to review and answer all the emails we get. Then we review some blogs and sites about design, illustration, toys and tendencies. That way we keep ourselves updated bout what s going on around the world on the visual field.
Round 13, 14 we go for something to eat: BBQ, Arabian food, pizza, chinesse…whatever is good for the day. And round 18 19 we go back to our homes.
We spend a lot of time at the studio, having in mind that we work for ourselves. We spend most of that time drawing, thinking bout next products to release, promoting our work, upcoming projects.

5-  What is your most common approach for completing a project?

We begun with some stupid ideas, things that probably wont be able to do, because of money, time or whatever. From that we start thinking on possible solutions and sketching those ideas.
We usually try to work the 3 of us together in every project, that way we can prepare something more complex. Then we move that to the computer.
It always depend on the time we have to develop the project, and if it s a project that came to us or if we develop the whole concept and idea or if it s a DGPH project for the studio.

6-  Out of all your work what is your favourite piece and why?

I think one of our favourites were the socks. Something different, new and never don before by any other studio.
It was a project that came out from the studio: we develop the idea, production and distribution.
It was a fun thing to do with great answer from the audience.
Other work we really enjoy is the exhibitions, since it s a way for us to leave the computer and go back to the analog way of work. We really like painting and doing more “craft” things, so that way we encourage our selves to go back to basics.

7-  Is it easy to make a living in the work that you do?

I don’t know if it s easy. It requires a lot of time, and a lot of love for what u do and what u want to accomplish. There s big chance anyone can make it fi they put their hearts on their work and if they create a solid and original way of work.

8-  Who is your biggest influence?

Jim Flora, Tim biskup, Takashii Murakami, 50s illustrations, American Comics, Charles Harper, are some our most influence artists. Studios like MK12 or Lobo too, where a great influence for us while we where growing as designers at the University.

9- How important is technology for the work that you do? What tools could you not live with out?

For us would be impossible to work without internet for example. Its the only way to get to another part of the world, fast and easy. That way we were able to expose our work to the world and reach other clients and countries.

10- How important is color in your work and why?

Its important since it s a way to define a kind of work. We tend to use a lot of pastel colours. And usually try to put our work in a vintage style, so we copy some techniques form the fifties cartoons. I guess the colour is one of the things that define any designer from another one: what kind of palettes the artist use at his work is a way to difference from the rest.

11- Whats your favorite color?

Its impossible to say. We use a lot of light blue, cyan, browns, greens…We tend not to use much black. At most of our pieces don’t have black as part for the design, mostly if it s for an illustrations. Don’t know why, it s a decision we took.
